Remembrance began as a school wide art project in November 2006 and culminated in a week-long workshop that ran from 7:30 am till 2:00 pm during one week in December. Nearly 700+ students and faculty of Somerset High School participated.

All materials were prepared by students in the art department

Students steeped 3000 teabags, gathered and organized fabrics, twigs, buttons, threads, and needles in preparation for the workshops. Strips of tea dyed paper contain the names of fallen soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Community and family members were invited to participate. (Above) Trustee member Merilee Bowers, Suzanne Baldaia, and trustee member Kathleen Fisher.

Students, faculty, and community members created 3000 abstract figurative sculptures representing fallen service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. During the months of January through March 2007, family, friends, and community members gathered at 318 Prospect Street to sew the completed figures to the grids.

Remembrance has since grown to include broader community involvement. Many groups have participated in the creation of abstract figurative sculptures to reflect growing casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.
